Memories of Bryan Carpenter
One of our classmates, Bryan Carpenter, passed away a few years ago. Last year his sister Cherie, who did not attend Happy Valley, also passed away. While I was at Cherie’s memorial service, friends told me that Bryan’s widow, Christie, wanted to speak with anyone who knew him.
I had attended Pinecrest Baptist with the Carpenter family and also lived near them. Anytime I did not have a ride to a youth activity before I could drive, I would walk to their house and Bryan would take me to church. Usually when I got to their house Bryan was lifting weights. Since Bryan was older than me, this was about all I knew about him. I related this to Christie and told her I knew it was not much. She thanked me and said that it sounded like how he had raised their sons who are now teenagers,
and that she liked finding out anything about him from before she knew him.
I thought that if I could contact people that knew Bryan better than I did that they could share their memories of him with his grieving family. Please take the time to share anything you remember. It can bring comfort to his wife, parents, and siblings, and provide insight to his sons on how he was at their age. As Desmond Tutu said, “Each one of us can make a contribution. Too frequently we think we have to do spectacular things. Yet if we remember that the sea is actually made up of drops of water and each drop counts, each one of us can do our little bit where we are. Those little bits can come together and almost overwhelm the world. Each one of us can be an oasis of peace.”
Thank you for anything you can share about Brian.
